Author’s Prelude

Greetings, Seeker, one final time! You hold in your hand an invaluable resource, for this is the third volume of a guide to Arelith’s greatest hidden treasure: The Astrolabe, the Door with many Keys. Perhaps you have seen the other volumes, or perhaps this is where your journey begins. Either way, I wish you fortune. You will likely need it.

The first step is to Attune yourself to the Glorag Stone, high in the Skull Crags. After that, you will need the correct Keys, clues to which I have left in the three volumes of this Codex. Once you pass through the Door, the rest is up to you.

This volume concerns the Lower Planes of the Great Wheel, those otherworldly realms of the Outer Planes which are aligned towards Evil.

Third Riddle of Keys

These Lower Realms

Teem with danger

And wait for the unwary.

This Place Without is emptiness,

Where fire dies and light fades:

A skeleton holds tight this Key.

A Hellish scene, filled with bile:

The stomach of a loathsome hag.

Sate her appetite with the Key.

Above a yawning Abyss lies the next,

With chasms full of horrors:

The Key is the life for which it thirsts.

And in Limbo, absent sense and sanity,

The Key is laughter,

But the joke is on you.

[The final page of the book bears a simple design: A star, ringed by two layers of circles - six compose the inner layer and a further sixteen make up the outer layer.]
