This begins in the Dark Spires, near the very peak, in the Hall of Umbrick. Umbrick was a great and mighty Dwarven Hold, high atop the Dark Spire Mountains. Honor, Truth, Valor, Strength, Duty, Endurance, Patience. These were among the chief values of those who called the Halls of Umbrick "Home". But Greed crept into Umbricks Halls. The Dwarves delved deeper and deeper, in search for precious stones and metals. They eventually burrowed into a Duergar Hall, and war broke out. The War was short, decisive, and a great gate was built, separating the two Halls.

The Duergar, driven by Greed themselves, grew covetous of the wealth and power of Umbricks Halls. They knew the susceptibility of their kin to fall to Greed themselves, and began to make secret offers. It was then, that one succumbed unto them, and at their request, unlocked the Great Gate, opening it to the Duergar. His reward, was a quick death, at the hands of the Duergar Army. Umbricks Halls were fast asleep, the Sentries patrolled vigilantly, but were ill prepared for such an abrupt onslaught. Umbricks Halls were soon locked in a swiftly loosing battle. Very precious few escaped the carnage. Some fled, others fought their way to the surface. Our story truely begins with one of these, Belrun Battlehammer.

Belrun Battlehammer was the son of a noble Sonnlinor in Umbrick's Halls, with a blood tie to the King. When the battle began, Belrun was awakened from his bed by the din of battle, steel clashing against steel. He gathered as many as he could and led them in a counter-attack against the Duergar with limited success. When Belrun saw the sheer carnage, he knew the Halls were lost. He cut his way out of the Halls, bringing with him as many as he could gather.

Belrun lamented the loss of the glory of the Halls of Umbrick, but knew that they must move on, rebuild elsewhere, until someday they would retake their ancestral halls. He, with the aid of others, founded Brogendenstein, a small dwarven hold further down the mountain.

Because of his blood, because of his example, his honor, his sense of duty, he was crowned the First King of Brogendenstein. In his wisdom, he knew that Brogendenstein could not stand alone, so he turned to his knees, and looked to Moradin. Standing next to Moradin, King Battlehammer saw Moradin's allies: Garl Glittergold and Yondalla. He turned then to the fledgling fort of Bendir, where Yondalla's children had settled. Working with the Mayor, Maliss Silverfist, together, they founded the Earthkin Alliance.

The Earthkin Alliance, was a union of Moradin's, Garl's and Yondalla's children, who together, promised to withstand the perils of the island. King Battlehammer lead many a charge against dire foes, such as Stonehold, Morguun the Black, Gruumshs foul children, Minotaurs, Trolls and everything else that threatened the Earthkin.

King Battlehammer's heart however, grew heavy. His eyes were often turned upwards, to the peak of the Dark Spires. To the very place of his childhood, his ancestral home of Umbrick's Halls. He felt duty bound, to try and recover pieces of the Halls former Glory, and led many forays thither.

King Battlehammer called to the east, requesting aid of more dwarves. Clan Ironanvil, Clan Frostforge and Clan Beloril sent significant numbers. Among them, was Gorann Bloodletter who also answered the call. Gorann, hearing of the woes and perils of Umbricks Halls, left his clan, amidst a war, to honor the call promised by his forefathers. He came unto Brogendenstein and stood by King Battlehammer's side. King Battlehammer taught Gorann everything he could, raising him as if he were his own son.

During one of King Belrun's extended forways, there was a near constant power struggle in Brogendenstein. Barok of Clan Anvilguard stepped up and claims Regency. Regent Barok Anvilguard, served moderately well in the King's absence, and is most notable for his gruff demeanor. He lead from the front, though had difficulty relating his intentions to others. A conflict arose between Brogendenstein and Myon, which resulted in a war. The War started as many do, a disagreement. Regent Anvilguard is credited with drawing first blood. Brogendenstein was further endangered by a near constant threat from the Underdark, as Drow, Duergar and others sought to annihilate the divided dwarves.

During this dark and uncertain time of the Golden Halls history, one kinsmen rose to unite the clans and steer Brogendenstein towards better days. Instilling discipline, tradition and honor back amidst his people. Gorann Bloodletter. Many of the halls, the regent included, would often seek Gorann for his wisdom, council, or seek his axe to aide in battle.

King Battlehammer returned, his age showing and his heart weary with the troubles of the world. King Battlehammer's desire remained in Umbrick's Halls, and in his wisdom, he knew it. During the short time of his return Belrun was quick to assess the situation and saw that the future prosperity of Brogendenstein would be safe with Gorann. He took the crown from his head, and ordered it be placed upon Gorann "Scar" Bloodletter's head. He bade them farewell, forbade any from following him in his duty, and the aging dwarf marched alone, into the depths of Umbrick's Halls, to once again, seek the lost crown.

King Bloodletter, strove to continue King Battlehammer's work. He first met with Myon and ended the war. He forged stronger relations with the Halfling fort, now under the guidance of Lincoln Ambliss, and he continued to build in Brogendenstein. He tried to instill in Brogendenstein the same values that Umbrick's Halls held dear.

He organized many orders within Brogendenstein, including the Runeguard, the Golden Kulds, the Highlanders, Pathfinders and the Runebinders. It was also under this new leadership, that the Founding Stones, a series of dwarven law and traditions, were erected in the Halls for all to bear witness. He reigned for a good many years, even as dire news came to him of the battles of his clan in the far east.

His heart became torn, as his duty was split. He had a duty to Brogendenstein, his word to keep to his friend Belrun Battlehammer. He also had a duty to his clan, who was suffering in a long and brutal war. His Duty to his clan won out in time, and he chose his successor, and crowned King Maxkar Delinar. Gorann Bloodletter, passed to the East, returning to his clan to fulfill his duty.
