The events that led up to the attack are many and interlocked in strange patterns. First of all militaristic Banites, disgruntled that they lost control of Wharftown which they had governed for many moons, turned their eyes on the Grove. The Grove seemed an easy target. No militia and only a few loosely organized druids and rangers to protect it. And if the Banites succeeded they would have had a good base of operations to strike at Myon and Light Keep.

The army of Urblexis Grond, home to the slave races of the Underdark had their eyes on the grove as well but for entirely different reasons. The kobold warlock Vippin is believed to be one of primary forces behind Grond's attack. Aside from the apparent wish to enslave or destroy the druids, the kobold had shown a strange interest in the Archdruidess Sarah Sanders. Partially because he had succeeded in seperating Sarah and her bond to the wolf spirit, Maligna, and claimed the wolf spirit for himself as a trophy.

The extent of the drow involvement in the events around the attack is more or less unknown. But they were there for the attack, that much is known. Considering Udos Dro'Xun's History of war and hatred towards Stonehold and the Banites, the alliance was a strange one.

Whatever the nature of this alliance, the combined efforts of the three factions were more or less unsuccesful as the grove had the aid of both warriors of Light Keep, the proud and deadly elite elven soldiers of Myon and even the mages of the Arcane Tower. It is said that most of the Banites were dispatched by the mages before even coming close to the grove.

Revelations made by several scholars and researchers on Arelith have confirmed that the kobold Warlock, Vippin, was the catalyst and organizer of the entire Attack, Banite, Drow, and Grondian alike. How he managed to temporarily unite the three forces is unknown, but the implications are unsettling.
