Home of the countless Devils and Fiends of the multiverse, the Nine Hells have stretched their corrupting influence further to open Gates upon the isle of Arelith.

It began with the drow, who were the first to learn of the Gate's opening. They saw it as a threat, given the fact that the hordes of the Baatezu were perpetually at war with the servants of Lolth, the Tannar'ri.

Then-Ust'Ilharessen Oblodra of House Drak'aa began to organize a vast assemblage of people. Though mostly drow, many Grondians were conscripted. Of note were the two kobolds, Orn Gixi, and Vippin, who directly led all of the Grondian forces under Oblodra's indirect command.

The Matron's plan was simple - to pry open the Gates (which were merely bursting at the seams, not open), and then infiltrate the Plane. Once inside, they intended to find a means to seal the Gate forever, furthering Lolth's control over the demonic and infernal forces near the Gate.

Seven Ritual Circles were scattered across the Underdark, some in the deepest depths, and others near the Upperdark. Splitting into eight teams, they all began to activate these circles by channeling great magic into them.

Though the first attempt to unseal the doors failed due to a lack of coordination, a good number of the group were lost in the Darkness following the withdrawal to the Tradepost. Following this, more teams were sent out, and a successful Ritual was performed across the width and breadth of the Underdark.

The entire Island rumbled as the Gate opened, awakening the full of Baator's might. The crowd regrouped, and prepared to enter.

At this point, the kobold Vippin and Orn Gixi had begun their plan - to use their fellow kobolds (as there were about four or five of them present, all of them powerful in their own right) to distract the drow. Serving their patron deity, Kurtulmak (and in one case, Tiamat), they began by spreading dissent amongst the drow, thinning their numbers.

When the invasion of Baator came, the drow charged into the gates with their Grondian counterparts, right into the scalding acid rain of Minauros. Countless were killed by both the acid pouring freely from the sky, and the five Juggernauts that guarded the Interior Gates - each one as large as a building.

Though the Juggernauts were eventually felled and many of the Raiders resurrected, the acid rain continued to whittle at the drow and Grondians. The kobolds began to take things into their own claws, directing what drow they could to split up in the guise of trying to find the means to seal the Gate.

All but the First Matron and a few others perished. Only through the capricious hand of fate did many of them return to the realm of the living, having failed in their mission to close the Gates, and succeeded in their mission to prop them open.
