The Forsworn: A History

Composed by Kensin Torellus

Mirtul, Year 74 AR

Based upon the isle of Arelith far off the Sword Coast, the Forsworn are one of the foremost guilds of crusaders and fighters for justice known upon the Island. Founded some five years ago as of writing, at the very beginning of Year 69 by Arelith's local reckoning, the Forsworn are best compared to the local knightly orders of paladins of Waterdeep or Neverwinter.

Their members hail originally from the more classical organization of crusaders of 'Light Keep,' in a small settlement known as Benwick. The Forsworn's founder, James Malhinde, was originally the Lord Protector of Benwick, and at his side were the Commander Cina and High Priestess Rowan Willows (the three of them consisting of Light Keep's Council).

Eventually, concerns grew that the Keepers had grown lax in their duties. This issue fermented for some time, before a large (thankfully bloodless) dispute grew, internal strife between those that sought reform and those that wanted to maintain the status quo. The dissenters, lead by James Malhinde and his second, Oria Mavekix, eventually won in the dispute against Godfrey Willows and his entourage.

As the votes were nearly tallied, James Malhinde was in place to be named King of Benwick, and Light Keep's Council was dissolved. Godfrey Willows and his entourage eventually tried to fight against the impending change with an attempt to force the incumbent King Malhinde to step down. After a long and terrible (thankfully only verbal) fight, Malhinde and those loyal to him, most notably Oria Mavekix, seceded from Benwick and left for Guldorand to found the Forsworn.

The Oaths of the Forsworn are as follows, which they relentlessly uphold:

"Protect the weak and innocent." "Avenge the oppressed." "Dispense punishment to those who cruelly harm others."
