Letters From The Thayan Liberation/Massacre

So this is Kaida, long time no talk. Little problem came up I thought you should be aware of... You see, apparently Herial got it into his head that liberating Wharftown in a nice bloody fashion, as opposed to say... assassination, would be a grand~ idea. And did. I walked in on it starting and he led a bloody army into the poor town and killed everything that moved. The Selune priestess, the boy that runs around and spouts obnoxious things, the dogs. You name it. Some gnome talked about mass domination but let~s face it.. Excuses only go so far. Thought you might want to know. I marked some faces but not all that many. Either way. This wasn't liberation so much as mass murder. It's not justice when everyone is a bloody victem. So heads up. Going to be some fallout from this one.

As of now Whartown is under Cordor control until it sets a working government. We as a governing city have a base and platform to give aid to Wharftown in this time of transition. It is our sister city and its our dity to protect its peoples. You, people of Wharftown need to hold an election for Mayor and a council or whatever it is you want to appoint. This is needed as quickly as possible. I would also ask that Myon aid in this matter. Until a working government is set As well as bendir. we need proven cities and peoples to lead until you set a gonverment. Not an invading army.

Wharftown has officially been claimed by Cordor. It is now a protectorate and follows all Cordorian law. Guards will be stationed in Wharftown's time of need until a time comes when it can stand on it's own. All those who bring harm to Wharftown also bring harm to Cordor, and will be dealt with as such. This includes the terrorist Herial and his allies, who have recently brough war to Wharftown for little apparent reason. We encourage those who have participated in the attack on Wharftown to step forth and get in touch with Dante so an appropriate response can be made. Cordor will be watching over Wharftown and eventually be picking a set of leaders to rule the town. We encourage people who wish to help this town grow do so and help in any way that they can. Those who wish to help please contact Ayin Mesmer, his assistant Lily, Dante Lyons, or my assistant Ni'Varil Amolyn.

I will regret that I could not hold the criminals from being killed and their supporters charging at the liberators, from ending up dead. Having promised them no blood spilt, I trusted until the very moment that the necromancer would still have his common sense, and leave freely. But that was not to be, and his numerous crimes could not be be overlooked in sacrifice of the free people. Had I been quicker, I could have held all those who supported Mesmer. But in the chaos of battle, I missed the chance. Many who fell or were injured were raised once more, the loss of thirty five faithless who supported the necromancer, is a bitter loss we must accept and live with. There is no war without blood. The now restored Temple of Selune will cherish their memory, even when it was the very temple desecrated by the very necromancer and his faithless. Today, Wharftown is overcoming an illegal rule, overcoming the loss of many who were banished or murdered, overcoming those who fell in arms way in that fateful day the plague was removed. It is a town of free people again, town of children of Arelith. Not of Thay. Instead of arguing, watching by the sidelines, help us rebuild it.

Firstly - Herial is to hold no official power in Wharftown. Cordor does not condone his attack nor will it reward him for his ~efforts~ (that being; slaughter). If by some strange turn of events Wharftown welcomes its Butcher as a Waymen, it will have to happen after he has been tried under Wharftown's new Government for his awful crimes. Secondly, and so folks are clear on what the current Waymen are doing - Colav leads the group known as the Waymen, which act as Wharftown's militia. The Waymen are allowed to arrest folks in Wharftown and are allowed to recruit for their own cause. As far as ~chain of command~ is concerned, the Waymen are considered Privates in the Cordor Guard. But, of course, are limited to Wharftown alone. I hope this clears up some confusion.

Currently Wharftown is very much a rubble and pile of stones. Cordor has agreed to act as a frame for this fine town until an agreement can be made that sets up the infrastructure of the town. Herial and, at least to my knowledge, the citizens all acknowledge this as best for Wharftown. Once Wharftown can stand on its own two feet Cordor will happily step back from things. Right now I need to get in touch with any who consider themselves to have authority ini Wharftown to help come up with some sort of structure to the place, a set of laws, et cetera. I will keep things posted to keep the citizens in touch with the on-goings of Wharftown. We highly encourage input, and those who believe themselves to be capable leaders to help Wharftown rebuild itself.

Dante

Wharftown is now under a four part operation of reformation.

Act I has currently started progress with the recruitment and strengthing of the towns defenses.

Act II will consist on an assessment of laws and legislations, along with Wharftown conduct.

Act III begins the building of alliances and trade between surrounding communities.

Act IV will be the final stage of combiing all our efforts to rebuild Wharftown. In conjunction with Cordor, we will bring Wharftown back to life as it was prior to my departure.

[signed with two C~s under a black crown] Colav Arniman, Commander of the Waymen, Mayor of Wharftown.

Kathele and Herial took the town by force killing 35 people. Most innocent civilians as well as Mr Mesmer. I moved in and took over the town to protect it as it had no structure left. Shortly after Dante arrived. He met with Mesmer who had been raised. And they agreed to make Wharftown a protectorate of Cordor and called for all involved with the invasion to be brought in to face judgement. He called them terrorists.

I was put in command of Wharftowns stabilization. Next day. Herial, Kathele, and Elve returned. They denied Cordor's claim on Wharftown and had words with Dante. In the end, he went off in private with Herial. After many hours he returned and took Wharftown back from Mr Mesmer and gave it to Herial. We were told to guard it with the waymen until a government is established. And that they would be working under Cordor until they establish their own.

When I asked since the waymen would be acting on protectorant soil if we were in command Dante said yes. But we were to work with them. When I asked, since Herial was now a wayman by his own decree. If i was his superior as i outranked him. Dante said no. So i asked how we are to keep the peace with a bunch of new waymen who have no idea how to guard yet if we cant tell them what to do. He replied think outside the box and this is a test.

So i left having had enough of it. And called a meeting with the guard and Dante forced his way into the meeting saying he was a guard as well. When we proved him wrong and told him of the current guard roster(which I left him off of)He agreed he had no right to order us nor to be there. But we let him speak. It ended with him laughing at us and saying we would bury Cordor. Gaist argued with us the whole time in Dante's defense so when the meeting was over and Dante stormed out.

As a former Commander of the Wharftown Waymen and as a currently very active Cordorian councilor (despite what some may think or publicly decry), I am personally outraged at Kathele and Herial's less-than-selective removal of Ayin Mesmer from power, particularly as it included depriving some 35 innocent civilians and bystanders of their lives (down to the little boy, by several accounts).

I did, in fact, initially back the motion, as it was termed a "liberation of Wharftown from the tyranny of the Red Wizards of Thay," and the would-be participants stated that they had every intent to do it as peacefully and bloodlessly as possible. I even supplied Herial with several magical wands (all of which were defensive only and/or completely harmless). Then, it seems the both of them decided to turn the whole affair into a senseless and bloody massacre, and it seems as well that the good councilor Dante has taken it upon himself to personally regulate and oversee everything that goes on in the rather bleak aftermath.

Let it be known that Dante has no council sanction to act in such a way. Wharftown is not a protectorate of Cordor, no Cordorian official has any authority there, and neither myself nor councilor Hull presently intend for that to ever change. I did not, and still do not condone the atrocities of the past weeks in any way, shape, or form.

By agreement of the Lord and Lady of Myon, the half-elf known as Herial Ghalen is to be denied access into the fair city of Myon. This is due to his troubling and questionable actions. Of greatest note to this decision lie on his part played in the Liberation of the port city known as Wharftown and his defense of the Malarite known as Cash Razorthorne.

His attacks on the citizens of Wharftown, slaying them without care in his liberation only show a desecration that will not be permitted to taint itself in the fair city any longer. Adding to this, his constant slander and attacks on those who serve the city with blood and sweat will be honored, furthering the desecration as a notable guest to the city he abandoned years ago.

Our tolerance has pressed itself too long for one who cares not for our home or our ways. And so, to ensure that the desecration he has brought in recent years will not be brought to us, this shall remain. May the Seldarine show him pity for all the wrongs he has done to himself and his intent.

Herial, the Butcher of Wharftown; Kathele, the Killer of Innocents. They come to Wharftown and slay men, women and children alike. There was no holding back their bloodthirsty arm. Herial proclaims Wharftown his after killing half its population under the threat of more death. Rightly, the citizens would have none of it. So he hands off the town to Colav. Colav assumes the role of protector, but who does he hire to be second to his command? Herial. The citizens of Wharftown, nay, of Arelith, let this awful occurance happen and condone its very existance by not ousting both Colav and Herial.

Allowing them to rule over Wharftown in the bloody aftermath is to say that the innocent people of Wharftown deserved their deaths for one mans greed.Wharftown was a small child of a town and the moment it learned to walk Herial stepped in and broke its legs because he disagreed with the one controlling it. A simple meeting or political movement would have done the same thing (or baring that, an assassination).

Cordor lends the crutches of aid but immediately removes them, breaking down the small glimmer of home Wharftown had. So what will you do now, Wharftown? Stand up against those who believe that to get one~s way, one must kill. Stand against that oppression, who says he does so with your best interests in mind. Stand and fight for a Wharftown free from the brutality and bloodshed Herial brings to it.
