The illithids and the Beholders have begun projects to breed truely massive Umberhulks, some of them able to tower over dragons. While some Umberhulks are being used as guards within the area of the underdark known as 'The Vault'; their intended purpose is to tunnel under Minmir lake, flooding the area underneath it. The believed motive for this is to flood out the drow and other races from their caverns. However, a more sinister motive may be in expanding the underwater region so that it is suitable for Aboleths. Several leaks have already been found under Minmir Lake. Beholders have also been scouting the Iron Mines and Coal Mines near Cordor. They have preferred to flee, through teleportation, in all known interactions so far. It is believed that they wish to spread their tunnels from the deep to Cordor; suggesting that once their plans for Minmir lake are finished they will put their Umberhulk's efforts into Cordor's direction. These beholders have had the scent of salt water and reptiles.

Ankhegs may be related to the above cause. They have been spotted north of Cordor, within the Bramble Woods. These Ankhegs are unnaturally large, perhaps due to the infection of a parasitic larvae. It is believed an Urdlenite deep below the Bramble's has been infecting them. But given that it is another tunneling beast it may be allied with the above.
