The war started when the orog Murag took over the position of Tyrant of Urblexis Grond after Skeflock. He thought Urblexis independent, and established a series of new laws and a militaristic Brotherhood in Urblexis Grond. The main catalyst for the war was that the Drow considered Udos Drox'un to be above Urblexis Grond, which the Tyrant would not acccept.

Murag declared war, and closed Urblexis Grond for the Drow. A couple of violent clashes between forces from Grond and Udos followed, but there was no showdown, no final battle in which the outcome was decided. Urblexis Grond's citizen soon began to discuss on whether to continue or end the war. Murag had to flee, and after a time without tyrant, the kobold Orn Gixi stepped up and became the new Tyrant. She declared the war over, and opened Grond again for the Drow to better trade and commerce. She had not negotiated with the Drow prior to this.

Then began a diplomatic conflict, with threats from the first illharess of Udos Dro'Xun, using the former ambassadrice Fadriatta as her messenger. Orn Gixi submitted to Udos Dro'Xun's will, and tried to administer the many different interests in Grond, now under Udos' reign. After a while of uneasy peace most of the populace of Urblexis Grond became discontent with the open Drow dominance in what they percieved as their city. They turned to the deep gnome Satho Cradfoot who promised to free Urblexis Grond of Udos Dro'Xun's whips and chains.

And so open hostilities resumed with heavy losses on both sides. In a major battle the forces of Udos Dro'Xun succeeded in breaking through Grond's defenses and lay waste to much of the city. The tyrant and some of his closest officers were not slain in the battle, however, and while some negotiations were held after Urblexis Grond's defeat, some speculate that these only served to allow the Grondians time to rebuild and reinforce their city and its defenses. The negotiations did not lead to a truce and soon the hostile encounters resumed although more in the form of small skirmishes instead of large battles.

Urblexis Grond built defensible barricades near Brackish Lake and in The Domed Cavern and the Drow sent out spies to work behind enemy lines. In Udos Dro'Xun fortifications were being constructed as well, although not as feverishly. Udos Dro'Xun's walls and defenses were already formidable before the war started so some viewed these new battlements as simply symbolic acts. In any case the war continued. Turmoil and chaos was stirring inside Udos Dro'Xun and as T'riss'Antar took over the position as Ulath'tallar from Vilia, Drak'aa's second in command, things started to fall apart in the first house.

It was well known that the Tyrant of Grond primarily viewed the first house as his enemy and as Drak'aa started to loose its grip on power, negotiations between ambassador Pharyx on behalf of matron Qilztra Xymox started to pay off. The war ended as apbruptly as it had started. Some speculate that it was in part the Tyrant and his personal war with the first house of Udos Dro'Xun that ended the war. As that conflict got more and more bitter, it seemed Satho and his cohorts were more than willing to deal with the drow that was not of the first house. This sowed discord in Grond as it would seem the freedom Satho had promised was no longer what the war was about. These theories are supported by the fact that the Cradfoots and their allies were cast out of Grond after the war and remained bitter enemies of the city for as long as they remained in the Underdark. But the relations between Urblexis Grond and Udos Dro'Xun remained more strained than ever.
